Project – Work packages

The ReBioCycle work is organized into six work packages: The technical work packages revolve around the collection and sorting of bioplastic waste, recycling, validation, the application of the Safe and Sustainable by Design framework, and the performance of the environmental, economic and social assessment. The other work packages cover management, communication, dissemination, and exploitation.

WP1 Project management. Lead: University College Dublin

It ensures professional and effective project management by considering partners and work coordination, project progress monitoring, financial management, administrative management, and quality management. Furthermore, it develops productive and clear communication channels between the partners, and it supports both day-to-day management and longer-term issues, such as intellectual property and key exploitable results management.

WP2 Collection and Sorting. Lead:

Sociedad Anonima Agricultores de la Vega de Valencia

It coordinates the logistics of the local HUBs’ envisaged activities and the synergies between them. Each local HUB will be furnished by a local waste collector site. Robust sorting technologies will be re-adapted for biobased plastic polymer fractions and nearby recycling PILOT plants.

WP3 Bioplastics Recycling. Lead: TORWASH

It demonstrates the recycling process of the three sorted streams of bioplastic materials PHA, PLA and composites in various forms (e.g., bottles, films, etc): The three polymers will be subject to mechanical, chemical, microbial recycling, and enzymatic recycling to demonstrate a portfolio of innovative solutions, that can be broadly replicated in other contexts and regions for bioplastics recycling.

WP4 Empirical Evaluation and Validation. Lead: NOVAMONT

It validates the outputs of the WP3 recycled polymers (e.g., rPLA, rComposites, and rPHA) in industrially relevant environments.

WP5 SSbD, Environmental, Economic and Social Assessment. Lead: ARCHA

It assesses the economics and sustainability of the three target recycled bio-based plastic polymers and their associated recycling and production processes.

WP6 Dissemination, Exploitation, and Communication. Lead: European Bioplastics

It increases stakeholders’ awareness and knowledge, presents the project, maximizes impacts, and maximizes the communication, dissemination, and exploitation impact.
